Set the Table

I have an "I am" statement for this year that's two fold. I've accompanied it with two action steps—one I'm doing daily, the other weekly. I'll share my statement with you, but you can't laugh. Promise?

I am God-confident and people-confident.

Let me give some backstory to this statement. In January 2023 I entered into a God prompted transition which began with 40 days of prayer, fasting and just waiting in God's presence. Now before you think I'm super spiritual, my fasting was not a water fast. I simply cut out sweets and processed carbs while fasting til noon each day. The objective was to give some things up that I loved in order to spend more time with God.

Around week two of my fast I felt God speak loud and clear. With this new season, I needed some new mindsets. You see, we can enter into our Promised Land but still carry bits and pieces of slavery along with us. God was pointing His finger on areas that I needed to kick out of my mind and replace with God's truth. Hence my "I am" statement for the year was born.

The action steps for my statement are as follows: I will daily recite who God says I am out loud.

But my statement was two-fold. The second portion focused on being people confident. Now, this didn't mean my confidence was in people, but rather, as God breathed confidence and truth into my life, I would in turn breathe it into others. I would lift them up. Remind them of God's truth. Remind them who they are in God.

The action step for the second part of my statement is: I will weekly send an encouraging text to someone I know.

When we think about generosity many times our mind wanders to finances, but true generosity is so much more than that. Generosity is giving what you have in order to make a difference in someone else's life.

Can I encourage us to be a blessing to someone else this week? Write an encouraging note. Spend time with a friend. Tell a random person one thing that blesses you about them. Set up and extra plate at the dinner table and invite someone over. Ask God to speak to you about someone else while you're reading your Bible—then text them an encouraging verse. Celebrate with someone who got the thing you've been praying God would give you.

Let's be a generous people.

"The world of the generous gets larger and larger." Proverbs 11:24 The Message Version

I would love to hear an "I am" statement from you for this year. Share what God is speaking to your heart.
