The model prayer in Matthew 6:9 starts out by saying "Our Father in heaven..."
This word "Father" (3962) in the Greek means: ones father by whom one is begotten. God as creator, preserver, governor of all men and things watching over them with parental love and care.
Wow. That's a packed definition of what it means for God to be our Father. And by the way this is the 8th time in the Sermon on the Mount that Jesus refers to God as our Father.
Do you think He is trying to make a point? Yes, I do!
You see, when we come to God in prayer we need to remember that He's our Father and that He acts towards us with "paternal love and care."
He loves us. We don't need to be afraid in His presence, we can be at peace.
Even His correction is done out of love.
How does the knowledge that God is your Father affect your prayer time with Him? I hope it breathes a fresh confidence in your heart knowing that He loves and cares for you.
