In the Shadows

In front of us lies a path that, in all our calculations, leads us straight to everything we’ve dreamed. It encompasses our past, present and future, meshing it into one ball of exquisite dreams being fulfilled. Meanwhile, the other, less desirable, path seems as if it will only lead us into the shadows, unloved, unknown, undervalued—living in perpetual sacrifice.

But things aren’t always what they seem. Many times, they can be exactly the opposite. Only God can see the end from the beginning and no matter how hard we try to imagine what may come from the decisions we make, the only thing we are assured of is the reward of complete obedience.

The path of the shadows is a place where character is built, strength is given, purpose is formed and contentment is nurtured.

The foundation to carry the weight of your purpose is built in shadows of daily obedience. This is where heroes are developed. The path of selfless sacrifice was the choice she made, and many times, this is the choice that leads us to the promise God has for our lives.

Embracing the path of the shadows does not mean you are unimportant, but rather you know what is most important. You are content with the season you’re in. In God’s eyes, you are enough. You are loved. You are the daughter of a king and always will be.

Though there may be times of difficulty and sacrifice, you must trust you are in the hands of the One who created you. You know Whose you are.

Instead of trying to work out every detail of your life, focus more on who you are becoming.

Wait expectantly in the shadows for the moments of fulfilled promise to come your way, but until then, continue to walk in daily obedience and just be the person God is asking you to be.

When that promise does come, it won’t change or define you; you already know who you are. Whether in the palace, the field or the wilderness, you are being who God created you to be.

"The foundation to carry the weight of your purpose is built in shadows of daily obedience."
