When I bake a banana bread, it's a process. I usually do two batches at a time because one patch for our family of six is gone in a hot second! I have the recipe memorized. I place all the ingredients in our big Kitchen Aid mixer and when the consistency is just right I pour it into a greased 13 x 9 pan.
Into the oven it goes. After a good forty-five minutes the luxurious smell of banana bread permeates the house. The kids come out of the woodwork. "Is it done yet?" They ask with anticipation. "Not yet," I respond, shooing them away from the oven. In order to fully-enjoy it, we must wait until it's cooked to perfection.
No one wants an undercooked mushy bread because of impatience. Yet, how many times do we short change the work of God in our lives because He doesn't work the way we want, in the time frame we want? We end up with lives that are all mush and no substance.
We pull ourselves from the oven prematurely because we are impatient with the process.
Listen, if there's one thing God is showing me it's that His timing and His way is best. Sometimes that banana bread looks like it's cooked and ready to go on the outside, but as I cut into it I realize it's still too gooey on the inside. And the inside is what counts.
God is the master cook in your life. He knows exactly how long you need to stay put in the place where He has you. And listen, He is more concerned about the inside than the outside. God is wanting to make sure, your inside, your character and who you are becoming is cooked to perfection! Trust Him. Lean on Him. Respond in obedience to His voice.
"You may think your done and ready, but let me assure you, you've still got some cooking to do. Trust God to take you out when you're cooked to perfection and not a second before."
